Template Assisted Crystallization (TAC) is the embodiment of a new technology. Near the surface of small, specially treated polymer spheres, newly formed micro-crystals of dissolved CaCO3 become preferential Templates or Sites for additional hardness ions as they precipitate. The crystals are relatively insoluble, effectively isolating the CaCO3 from the water chemistry and anything the water contacts, such as pipes or fixtures.

The surface of small polymer beads attracts scale-causing ions, creating micro-crystals that become preferential templates for other ions to build on.
Crystal Release
Once the crystals grow to a certain size, they continue to flow through the pipeline. The crystals in solution keep the hardness out of the water so that it can’t form scale or interfere with soap. This process inactivates the minerals, causing them to flow right through pipes and down the drain, completely unnoticeable without specialized technology.

Q: What is TAC?
A: TAC stands for Template-Assisted Crystallization. The TAC technology keeps scale-causing ions from forming deposits on any metal surfaces or fixtures. TAC technology does not add or remove any elements from your water, allowing essential minerals such as calcium, potassium, and magnesium to remain without their unwanted effects on your pipes. HydroTAC® is proven to prevent up to 99.6% of scale through multiple independent scientific studies.
Q: What is the difference between a softener and the TAC water conditioner?
A: There are quite a few differences between softeners and this water conditioner. First, with a water conditioner, no minerals are being removed and replaced like they are in a softener. A softener removes calcium and magnesium from the water and replaces it with sodium. This gives the water a slippery feeling that can linger in the shower or on your hands. To do this exchange, it needs to be regenerated periodically, which creates wasted water. With our TAC media, the minerals are not removed or replaced, they are simply reorganized into harmless microscopic crystals that flow down pipes and out drains, unnoticeable to us on a macro-level.
